2nd Trimester Screening & Research Study Visit #2 - 19 Weeks

Today, Larsen and I set off to our 2nd trimester screening.  First, we met with a genetics counselor who thought we came from pretty healthy families! Next, we had an ultrasound that lasted over an hour.  The technician checked out every bone and organ of the baby. We found out that the femur is only 2.86cm long!  To conclude our visit, a doctor came in to tell us that everything looks normal and healthy! I do have placenta previa and a fibroid but as of now, they are nothing to worry about.

Next, we went to another building for the second appointment of the research study.  This appointment was very similar to the other, except the ultrasound was 3D.  This time, the baby was not as cooperative, so the pictures didn't come out as well as they could have.  He insisted on smooshing his face into the side of my uterus.  Below are a few...my favorite is the last one where he places his hand over his eye.

Oh...by the way...we found out we are having a boy and as of today, he weighs 10oz.  I was so excited to tell Stephen and Kayla. Stephen is siked, of course, to have a little brother on the way! Kayla made the greatest face of surprise when she found out! I love them!

Research Study Visit #1 - 13 Weeks

I had my first visit for the Research Study that I signed up for a few weeks ago.  The appointment was at Christiana Hospital and it was a little under 2 hours long.  First, I was required to read and sign the permission forms - this was the least interesting part of the day.  Next, I had to have blood drawn and an exam - I won't go into the details here.  Finally, I was rewarded with a 3D ultrasound! Here are a few of the pictures:

And a bonus....a video! If you are patient, you may see him/her move the arms so you can see the face...

My next visit is scheduled for April 13th.

1st trimester screening

Today, Larsen and I went for our first trimester screening. The baby was doing a head stand the entire time! He/She was super wiggly and kicking and punching! It was amazing at what we could see considering he/she is only 14 cm!

Earlier, while we were in the waiting room, a nurse from the hospital asked me if I would like to be part of a research study consisting of 10,000 women who are pregnant with their first child in order to help determine low birth rate, early delivery, etc. She said I would have to come in for three appointments over the next six months and at these appointments I would have blood work, an exam, and an ultrasound done....not just any ultrasound, but 3D ultrasounds! THREE! FOR FREE! I thought, "Yahoo!" and signed up!

We heard the heartbeat!

We heard it! My wonderful friend Robin let us borrow a pocket fetal doppler and it works! I was a bit apprehensive because I am barely 12 weeks along, but we heard it! I made sure I called Stephen to let him and Kayla know...of course they were excited! Ok I have to get some sleep now! :)

Introducing Baby Weisser!

Larsen and I are so happy to announce that we are expecting our first child! Stephen and Kayla are also super excited and everyone is so supportive!

I am not the greatest writer, but I want to make an attempt at keeping up with this blog as a way to keep all of my peeps updated! (please note that the pictures are not of the highest quality, but I just really, really wanted to post them for all to see - I will work on improving them soon!)

On Monday, January 30th, Larsen and I went for our first appointment.  The baby measured 4cm and was 8 weeks and 5 days old. Here is a pic!

I've been very lucky in the area of "morning sickness". I've only had a few nauseating moments, and many of them occurred at work...go figure! ;-)

I do feel like an old lady since I have been crawling in bed before Stephen and Kayla! I love my bed with the electric blanket cranked up!  Even though I get over 9 hours of sleep on weeknights,  I am still tired!

I have lost 10 pounds as of today, but don't know where it is going because none of my clothes seem looser! The only change that I can feel is the awful sciatica that I have been dealing with for over 3 weeks. By the time the work day is over and it is time to make dinner, it kicks in with a vengeance!

Larsen has been super patient with my food choices and Stephen and Kayla are great, as always! Stephen is hoping upon all hopes for a baby brother, and Kayla is just so excited to have a little sibling on the way!

Today, I went to my second doctor appointment where they checked the heartbeat. Sure enough, it was beating healthily and he/she even jumped when the doc was trying to take the picture! :)  Below is Baby Weisser at 11 weeks and 5 days!
